If you have attended Lakeport for any length of time, you know that the church has been thinking and praying about needing additional space for our kids, teens and adults. We’ve been praying about this for literally 20 years.
After intense prayer and many discussions over the past 2 years, we have looked at new construction and have begun investigating new possibilities. God has opened a door for Lakeport to be able to grow. To have a place where our teens can grow, a place where our children’s church can grow, a place where we as a church can open up to our community.
So, I’m excited to tell you that we have begun purchasing negotiations with the owner of Lakeport Elementary school, which closed a few years ago.
What would we do with it? Our initial thoughts are to have midweek programming at this site for kids, youth and adults. It is 35,000 square feet with a full gym, cafeteria, kitchen, media center, classrooms and bathrooms everywhere. It also has 2 little league ball diamonds. The possibilities for community events, retreats, little league and recreation are limitless.
We as a board know there are a lot of question regarding this potential purchase. We want to make sure we give everyone a chance to hear all the details and ask all the questions you might have. We will be having several informational meetings that you can attend, that will give you the financial information, a video tour of the layout of the building, the vision that we foresee, and hear how we can impact the community.
You as the congregation are an important part of this decision, please come to one or all of the informational meetings, and board members will be available at the end of each service for any additional questions.
The first informational meeting will be this Sunday January 15 @ 6pm
Other dates include Wednesday the 18th at 1:00 pm,
Saturday January 21 @ 7:30 after Refuge our Saturday night service ,
Thursday January 26 @ 6pm and on Sunday January 29th.
On February 5th, all adult members AND non members will be able to vote on this decision.
All these dates are in the bulletin, Facebook and the church website so you can see what dates work best for you.
Will you bathe this decision and discussion in prayer? We are praying for Gods will, that we put aside our fears and trust in God. And we will listen and do what he is calling us as Lakeport Wesleyan Church, to do.
